We were drawn to the Xerox Phaser 6110 by the rather non-office looks and its price tag, which is quite attractive. Its considerably compact when compared to any laser MFD, but its 20.5kg weight is somewhat high, we think. The easy front loading toners go straight inside the body vertically rather than horizontally, so theres little chance of your hands getting dirty.
The input tray capacity is 150 sheets-comfortable for any SoHo, and if that is not enough, an optional tray can support an additional 250 sheets. The ADF can hold 50 sheets and makes life easier while copying multiple documents using the flatbed cum sheetfeed scanner. The scanner supports up to legal size paper. The control panel is very asy to use and the 16 character, 2 line display gives a lot of information. At the front is a USB port that lets you plug in a USB stick and print its contents. You can even connect a PictBridge camera to this port using its data cable to print photos without a PC.
Print quality is good and crisp in both black-and-white and color prints. It was pretty fast, too, taking just 11 seconds for black and 14.9 for the color print. The scanner performed flawlessly, displaying excellent color recognition and capturing fine details well. Scanning a 600 dpi, A4 photo took just 45.3 seconds. It was a bit slow at copying, 14.8 seconds for black and 35.5 seconds for color, but the copies were so good that it was hard to distinguish between the original and the copy.
It features USB as well as network interface. The fax has 4MB of memory for storing received faxes in standby mode. Bundled along is the maintenance utility that lets you perform routine maintenance tasks, and a utility to setup the device over a network. The price is surprisingly affordable of $1000, and that makes the Xerox Phaser 6110 MFP a highly recommended product.

Print, Scan, Fax, Copy and get photo prints all at a great price - seem impossible? Well, the Brother MFC-5460CN seems to be what you are looking for, at least at the first look. Like all brother MFDs, this one sports a no-nonsense, office look, with rugged built. It is quite small. At the front is a two line, backlit LCD indicator that reports a lot of data and also lets you access the control panel menu. The input paper tray can accommodate 100 pages, just enough for a small to medium office, and the 35 page ADF tray is foldable.
Brother MFC-5460CN

The printer sports a resolution of 6000 x 1200 dpi, fairly high. There are four color cartridges, and access to these is made easy by means of a door at the front of the unit. The flatbed scanner can scan legal size documents. The printer supports most popular memory formats and it even has PicBridge.
Connectivity is via USB and a network interface, but you will need to weave the wires through the provided channel into the heart of the device. The advantage: no accidental disconnections; disadvantages: it’s irritating, and wires may not last long due to all the twisting.
The inbuilt 33.6Kb/s fax can store up to 400 pages and its capable of broadcasting to up to 150 locations. The phonebook memory is 100 numbers.
Printing is slow; the printer took half a minute to print a simple text document in normal mode, and took over a minute to print the same in best mode. Print quality is decent and sharp. There is some amount of graininess in photo prints, but its good enough for the average home users. The copier does an excellent job. The software bundle consists of the MFL-Pro Suite (a short of control center), PaperPort SE with OCR (a definite plus), and even a Presto! PageManager OCR for Mac users.
At its price of $340, I can say, its a good buy, if you don’t mind waiting a bit for the print.
